The marquee items in the measure included $10 billion in aid to states to help avoid teacher layoffs and $5 billion for collegiate Pell Grants. The package also provided $142 million to help clean up the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and $1 billion to assist youths find summer work.
And those $20 billion to be spent on our education and our citizens is in contrast to the $37 billion to be spent in Afganistan. Ok granted they are against all spending except military ones, pray what the heck is with the $10 billion a month they committed us to in Iraq for almost 10 years for completely discredited reasons, or the almost $5 billion a month in tax breaks for oil companies bestowed in the Cheney oil bill. Its not as if 99% of the offensive spending at least does not end up back inside our economy compared to rich people tax cuts that goes into foreign investment or adventurous war spending in foreign countries.
