Palin has been in New York meeting international leaders in town this week for United Nations meetings.
On entering a room filled with several Pakistani officials Wednesday, Palin was immediately greeted by Sherry Rehman, the country's information minister.
"And how does one keep looking that good when one is that busy?" Rehman asked Palin, drawing friendly laughter from the room.
"Oh, thank you," Palin said.
Pakistan's new president, Asif Ali Zardari, entered the room seconds later. Palin rose to shake his hand, saying she was "honored" to meet him.
Zardari then called her "gorgeous" and said: "Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you."
"You are so nice," Palin said, smiling. "Thank you."
A handler from Zardari's entourage then told the two politicians to keep shaking hands for the cameras.
"If he's insisting, I might hug," Zardari said. Palin smiled politely in response.
Poor Palin. This is not really her fault but it does help when you have estblished some credibility by virtue of known substantial positions (Tatcher, Merkel, Clinton). I wonder how Hillary would have handled this?
What if Palin becomes president shortly? Sheepish smiles might not cut it. Useless personal conversation will also do little to help. What has happened to our country?
I don't think the Pakistani President just wants to hug her!!!! She is trying to develop some foreign relationships but not those kind of relationships . A male dominated country like Pakistani does not treat her seriously...She is not taken serious at home why would any of the world leaders take her seriously. They are just placating her and know that it will be the Obama/Biden ticket they will have to deal with. How does Palin's husband feel about all of this????

Zardari's wife Bhutto was an ex-president of the country in the 80s. He became president mostly because of her recent political work (before the untimely assasination by terrorists earlier this year). We have not yet had a female president. I doubt Angela Merkel of Germany, Tatcher of England, or even Hillary would be so addressed. Our presentation, substance, and perception has a lot to do with how we are taken. However, I am on her side on this one as she might not have expected this, but she could do better than smiling sheepishly and making family talk. Also, if she had been known on the foreign policy stage or for a stand on anything, she might not have been treated as window dressing. One would think the over 30 million republican party can find someone, even if we gave us Bush twice.
